What will I need?
What you bring is up to you! If you own some dive gear, perhaps a mask, snorkel and fins, then bring them along if you have the space! Whatever equipment you require we can provide for you.
How long will it take?
The course probably takes less time than you think… just 3.5 days will let you complete the course.
How much will it cost?
The current price is shown at the bottom of the page, it includes everything you need to get certified. All your training, learning materials, equipment rental and certification.
Starting in the classroom watching some movies. The course is structured with three major components – knowledge development, confined water dives, and open water dives.
The knowledge development is largely independent learning through reading the beginners manual and watching the corresponding section of the DVD. You will review what you studied in each section with your instructor and take a short quiz to be sure you’re getting it. At the end of the course, you take an exam to make sure you’ve got all the key concepts and ideas down.
The confined water dives are where it all really starts! Our instructors will teach you everything you need to know from setting up the gear to how easily you can get water out of your mask without surfacing. In shallow water that you can stand in you will take your first scuba diving steps. Together with one of our instructors you will take your first breath underwater!
With your confined water dives complete you’ll go on to make the open water dives with your instructor, typically at several different dive sites. This is where you can put everything together that you have learned so far. From your very first open water dive you will be diving amongst the fringing reef that surrounds Utila.
Minimum Age: 15 years. Students younger than 15 who successfully complete the course qualify for Junior certification, which they may upgrade upon reaching 15.
Physical: For safety, all students complete a brief questionnaire that asks about medical conditions that could be a problem while diving. If none of these apply, you sign the form and you’re ready to start. If any of these apply to you, as a safety precaution your physician must assess the condition as it relates to diving and sign a medical form that confirms that you’re fit to dive. If you have any doubt over your physical fitness to dive we recommend you visit your doctor before you leave home and get a fitness for diving check up. Your doctor needs to give you a signed statement on headed note paper stating that they find do not find any medical reason that would prevent you from diving.
Learning Materials: All the learning materials you need are included in the price of the course.
