The Pinnacle is one of the key features of Utila north side diving. At the eastern side of Turtle Harbor it has several features that really make this an interesting dive site. A tunnel at 19m (70ft) which emerges at a depth of 40m (130ft), the pinnacle itself rising from a depth of 40m (130ft) to about 10m (30ft) at the summit, and a number of chimneys that ascend from depth almost to the surface.
The Pinnalce's Buoy recently moved eastward a little way, so those who are familiar with the dive site won't find things quite as they were!
Descend from the buoy and you will find a network of channels in reef and interesting areas to explore along the top of the reef table. All at around 8m to 12m(40ft), even if you do nothing but explore this area there is plenty to see and keep you interested.
However, most people want to visit the pinnacle or make the deep swim through. To find the pinnacle itself simply head west following the wall. The first main feature you will find is a channel in the wall with a cavern on your right at around 15m (50ft) worth explorling for Nurse Sharks, Green Moray, and Tarpon. Keep on following the wall around and the pinnacle will appear a few minutes later.
The best way to make the swim through with the buoy in it's new position is to either surface swim a few minutes to the pinnacle or dive at a maximum depth of 5m(15ft) to get to the pinnacle. Once you have located the pinnacle descend to a depth of 19m, put the pinnacle to your back and more or less in the wall on your righthand side you should be able to make out the tunnel in the wall - enter the tunnel and follow the curving tube down into a larger opening through

shcools of Glassy Sweepers, exit from the tunnel at a depth of 40m (130ft) and start your ascent up and around the pinnacle itself.
Head in the opposite direction from the buoy and you will find the chimneys that are scattered along the wall in this area. Some of these ascend all the way from depth to the top of the reef (7m/20ft).
