Jane & Lucy
Our Ode to Alton's ------------------ When we got here we had no idea we'd stay this long or have so much fun. You made it hard to leave... so we have a few people to thank: Jamie: First & foremost thanks go to our instructor for not only teaching us to dive but also for providing much needed banter & entertainment (especially our crazy night out). All our dives were awesome; thanks for pointing out our first turtle and making us feel so at ease underwater. Couldn't have had a better first week diving. (in a gay australian accent) "it was a beauty!" Captains Joe & Gringo: thanks for the music & wet & wild rides! Martin/Norway/Viking: Although you might not have realised, you stole Lucy's heart for the week!!! THANKS AGAIN - we will miss you lots!!)
Airport Caves
The horseshoe swim through at Airport Caves
The Horse Shoe, the swim through at Airport Caves
One of the most popular at dives at Alton’s is a drift dive along the interesting and varied wall of this site. Airport caves is just around the corner from us, a quick 5-minute boat ride away. The top of the reef at Airport caves is very shallow around 10ft only, which makes it ideal for snorkeling as well as diving. Elkhorn corals are scattered along the top of the wall, which drops off to a maximum depth of around 80ft/24m. As you drift along the wall there is a series of three caves, which can be explored a little including one beautiful swim through called the "horseshoe". We expect to see green moray eels, black and yellow fin grouper, eagle rays swimming along the wall and hawksbill turtles hunting out a meal. We have even seen the occasional Manta here and have regular dolphin encounters in this area.
